Carbon, the light­weight of materials

…that’s what carbon components are known for. The term “carbon components” refers to carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). This is a composite material made of carbon fibres and a plastic matrix. The plastic matrix connects the individual carbon fibres and fills the spaces between the individual fibres. Thermosets, thermoplastics or epoxy resin can be used as the plastic matrix. Carbon products are always used when a product needs to be particularly light while maintaining a high level of stability or when it is particularly refined. Carbon products are found in many areas, for example for car body parts, car interiors and in the medical sector for wheelchairs and prostheses. Carbon is also an important material in leisure and competitive sports. For example, fishing rods, rowing boats and masts for sailboats are made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic.
